Panamanian 100 Balboa Gold Coin

Panama's first gold coin, the 100 Balboa, was minted in the United States by the Franklin Mint in 1975. After 31 years of prohibited gold possession, this was the first gold bullion coin minted in the US that citizens were legally permitted to own.

This Balboa is a beautifully designed coin made of 90-percent pure gold, has a total weight of 8.16 grams, is 26 mm. around and is legal tender in the Republic of Panama.

So, that means that the pure gold content of this 100 Balboa coin is 90% of 8.16 grams, or 0.9 x 8.16 = 7.344 grams pure gold. There are 31.104 grams in a Troy ounce. This coin has 7.344/31.104ths of an ounce of gold in it, or 0.2361 ounces of gold.
